I spoke with the representative at the NTS today. We spoke about the 3.3% tax rate. I explained to him I signed a labor contract and had an E2 Visa. He informed me that I was a "Wage and Salary Income Worker" if I worked at one (1) hagwon performing services for the employer for which I was paid for. If I didn't then I was considered a "free occupational worker" and my tax rate was 3.3%. My employer considers me a "registered worker" and is under the impression she should deduct according to 3.3%. Any thoughts on this? |

The 3.3% tax rate is for the self-employed. You'll find that stated on the NTS website.
Your employer is vainly trying to escape their obligation to properly cover you with National Health Insurance and National Pension contributions... because that costs them money.
This topic has been done to death but that's the guts.
Tell your employer that you are willing to accept the notion you're self-employed and would they henceforth pay you the full amount stipulated in your contract and you'll fix the tax and other things yourself. After all, that's self employed. Gross in cash please. |
