I have a two week vacation coing up, and really want to try and hit some other Asian countries. I have a limited budget, around $2000.

What would be a good route to go? I'd like to throw China and Japan in there if I could, but I am worried that I am going to spend more time in transit rather than seeing places. Also, I may be traveling alone, so as a woman, I want to be cautious.

Can anyone suggest a good route for me? Should I stay around Japan and China ? Should I swing over to Thailand, Vietnam, etc. and maybe try to hit India?

I'd skip Japan on a limited budget of 2k. I spent 3k in just 9 days but this also includes another 5 days in Korea.

China is cheap, apart from HK / Shanghai. Yangshuo, Dali, & Lijiang are all worth several days each. Thailand can be reached from Kunming with Thai Airways, which flies to Chiang Mai twice a week & to Bkk daily. There are many flights Bkk to Seoul.

You could fly Seoul to Beijing, head to Xian for the Terracotta Warriors, then train to Chengdu {pandas}, & then to Lijiang, Dali & Kunming. Or head from Xian to Guilin by train & then a bus to Yangshuo Guangzhou Shenzhen & fly back to Incheon from HK.

Thailand is great, but it is the rainy season now and the flood season will start in 2 or 3 weeks.
For a beautiful Autumn, China sounds like the place to be. Chengdu, Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Yangshuo are all great places.
The above poster hit it pretty spot on with a nice route. Maybe skip something because of time and get down to Kunming ASAP (for only two weeks). Save Yangshuo for last since it is a warmer place.
Have fun,
Drew
