I sign on with a public school, arrive in Korea on the promise of a visa run in three days (Mistake, I know), and now I'm being told to teach while it's "processing" with immigration.

I've been assured it will be fine, but I'm already deeply suspicious. Will I be fine teaching with the visa application submitted, or shall I hold off? I'm not going to risk being deported, and I'm only willing to stick around for another ten days or so without generating any income.

Do you work for EPIK or GEPIK? Don't teach until you have your E2 Visa in hand. If that's the route you want to go, then be prepared for a possible backlash.

It's a GEPIK contract, but the hiring was done by a private recruiter. Very odd situation.

So, no E2 in hand, no teaching, aye? I don't care about backlash, I'll bail before I do illegal. I feel I am owed only a few things here, and legal employment is at the top of the list.

I don't care if I can't teach here for a year after that (Excuse to swim in debt through grad school), but I don't want to wind up barred from re-entry permanently. That's the only backlash I fear whatsoever.
