I have been at my Hakwon now for nearly 10 months. Every day I try to find something to be enthused about, but I just can't. I am starting to really not give a sh-t and just do the bare minimum required.I don't want to be like that, but I feel like I am trudging through molases while I am there. We are all kind of like that actually-it's like the building sucks all the goodness and light out of ya within minutes of arriving. I'm sure this topic has been covered before(for those of you who freak if you have seen a similar thread in the past), but bear with me. How can I shake things up a bit? Any suggestions?

#1. Hold on for Chusok. A long break will do a lot to restore your energy.

#2. Look ahead a few days in your text book and find a lesson you can do something new and creative with.

Whores, cocaine and booze each day before going to school will ensure a nice and easy elasticity of mind. Failing that, however, just hang on; Grim Determination can see most people through just about anything.

Smile.. a lot. It sounds silly, but there was an article that said that when you smile (in the study people held a pencil between their teeth), your mood improves (or something like that). Do something kind for or be kind to your co-workers and/or the students. It'll make you feel tingly inside.

It really works. Vacations work too.

I know you don't want to hear this right now, but it's your own attitude that needs to be adjusted. Think optimistically! Instead of dreading the next two months as you're doing, tell yourself that there are ONLY two months to go. Look forward to the future beyond the next two months. Think good thoughts. I know someone will slam this, but my experience is that it works.

Both these suggestions will probably sound strange to you...but here goes.

Try eating 5 or 6 Kiwi fruits before your first class and keep some for midway through the day. When I did this, I had loads of energy and as a result I had a lot more fun in class.

Be prepared the next day though...too much of a good thing can mean a few extra trips to the john.

Confused

Aside from that, remember that happiness is a personal choice.

I know this sounds dumb, but just make up your mind that you are going to be happy ....no matter what....you're going to have fun in class... no matter what...your going to smile ....no matter what and your not going to give in to negativity....no matter what.

Try it for 3 days and see if if makes a difference.

Hope this helps.

Man, I know how you feel
I was in that exact same position 2 months ago (i finish in one week, thank god)
While I dont agree with some of the posts above they are right to a degree...
You have to find something you can do after work that you can look forward to throughout the day

The last few months were the longest in my life and I even started smoking again (even though I hate the way it makes me feel) just to have something to look forward to doing straight after work
Time still dragged but at least I didnt finish work and then thought, now what?
I hope you find something more healthy though

Go back home and work in a factory or a warehouse - 8 hours is good but a 12 hour shift would be better.

No need for it to be a lifetime career switch - go to an employment agency and do it for a week - a tyre part factory with 1 half hour lunch break and 2, 10 minute tea breaks - then back on the line for more mind numbing work day in - day out.

Some people do that till they are 65.

I asked them when I was whinging about how crap it all was how did they cope.

"Well you just switch off don't yer?'

Do your job and then go home.

Don't stay at home all the time get out and look around there a some things to do. I used to be the same way I just got off my butt and started exploring South Korea It does have some pretty places you just have to look for them. I went home and looked for a job but the market was so stale sucks to be from the midwest sometimes. I could make the same money but I was all alone working at night. So here I am working at public school now and loving it everyday is a new adventure. Something weird is always happening.

Thanks! Actually, I agree with the poster who said my attitude needs adjusting. I am pretty optimistic most of the time; am just going through the end of the contract blahs. Today during one of my classes though, one of the students said something silly, and I ended up having a bit of a laughing fit to the point of tears streaming down my face, and the other kids laughed a lot too-it felt really good!
I'm going to try that kiwi idea!

Look forward to reaching the end. 2 months can go quick. Get prepared mentally and otherwise for what you'll do after the contract is done.

When you get back home and start pounding steel for a living with your degree, you'll be back.
