It's high noon, Apple and AT&T -- we really hate to break it to you, but the jig is up. Last night the impossible was made possible: right in front of our very eyes we witnessed a full SIM unlock of our iPhone with a small piece of software. It's all over, guys.

This is interesting because AT&T made a lot of concessions to be the exclusive Apple I-Phone network distributor/whatever in the USA.

According to a court ruling on a previous phone case, people who own a phone have the legal right to use it with whatever network they choose. The only thing stopping them is internal software locking the phone to a certain network. If that software is overcome, it is legal to use the phone on any network they legally pay to use.

This news is meaningless to us because we don't have the iphone here nor can we change sim cards in phones here.

I thought i read they were in negotiations, which is different from getting it soon. also the iphone wouldn't work with korea's cdma(?) networks. Maybe if the next generation iphone are 3g then they might be able to come to korea.

Isn't there still the DMCA that says you're not allowed to hack your own property? The anti-circumvention provision?
