I've read some posts suggesting people to try for jobs teaching at public schools. So I was wondering, how do you get such a job? I've not seen any adverts for them. How hard is it to get such a job, and is really any better (pay, students, benefits, etc.) than working at a hagwon?

I'm not sure if you've heard of the EPIK program here in Korea. It's the Korean version of the Japanese JET program... though some would argue its much more substandard than JET.

However, EPIK isn't the only way to get a job at a public school. Sometimes they post here in the Korean Jobs section. Some recruit through programs like Fulbright. Hopefully someone who's working at a public school but not through EPIK will be able to give you some pointers.

Mokpochica worked for a public school but not through EPIK. Same with Zyzyfer. Send them a PM for info.

Anyway, if it's of any use or interest, here are threads about EPIK, but I forewarn you - they get very heated Wink

What about the EPIK program?

3. Ohhhh Epik!
4. Screwball EPIK
5. Is EPIK a Better Envrionment?
6. How Difficult is EPIK?

You could ring the Chollanamdo Education office as they employ a number directly.
