I have a pretty sweet contract with my hagwon...but the hagwon has just been sold to new owners.
I am 6 months into my contract and dont want to lose the severance pay that I have "built up" during that time. I want to get my sev pay and airfare in January (when my original contract would expire).
What's my legal situation if the new owners want to change my conditions? (Worse hours, more demands etc ). Would I have to get a letter of release to find a new job, or has the original contract now been terminated? How does this affect sev pay for January etc.
I have also heard I could sue the original owners for the remained of the contract and the airfare and sev pay. This would be pretty sweet. Any info on that?
Many thanks.

PM me the school that is in Jeongja. I live just round the corner and could help. The new employers have a responsibility to renew contracts, visa etc or you will be shafted. Get everything that's changed in writing. |

Doesn't immigration need to be infromed of this? Doesn't this change your visa/contract, etc? |

If your hagwon has changed hands, it is required by immigration for them to make all of the changes public...If your new owner doesn't do this, which does happen on ocxcasion when family buy outs take place, then your benefits might be in jeopardy...It would pay to make a vist ot immigration yourself to find out the status of your ARC as an inquiry, that way you will be doing two things...You will find out if you are legal and in turn you will find out if your new owner is doing the right thing as well...Never assume that your new owner will do the right thing 100% percent of the time...I lost several million won in one situation when the new owner was a family member and he and the grandfather who owned the business before him made a "family purchase agreement." |

I will soon be discussing the contract. I will let you know how it goes.
Does anyone know what should be the legal termination date of the contract? The original date or a new year contract starting from now?
Thanks for the advice. |
