Never heard of Dongtan, but Songtan is just a bit south of Suwon.
Typo error by someone maybe? |

Dongtan, from what I can tell, is a brand new area that wasn't around a few years ago. I don't know much other than that, though. |

Anyone else with information about Dongtan? How close is it to Suwon?
Does anyone have the coordinates (Lat/Long) so I can find the place in Google Earth? Cheers! |

I work in dongtan. I live in Byeongjeom though and I take a bus to work bus trip is under 15 mins unless traffic is really (only @ rush hour).
Byeongjeom is two stations south of Suwon on the subway - will take about 15 mins from Byeongjeom station to Suwon station.
Can't really comment on Dongtan as I spend absolutly NO time there whatsoever outside of school.
All the foriegn teachers I have met in Byeongjeom work in Dongtan. I've often wondered why this is the case and the best answer I have recieved is that "it just is".
Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the quick response. From what I know, Dongtan is just a new area full of high rises and such...but I'd like to find out what facilities and such they have in the area. If you could extract some info from those other teachers it would be great. Thanks again! |

"all the other teachers I've met in Byeongjeom work in Dongtan"
They are pretty much in the same boat as me: apart from working hours they spend little/no time in Dongtan itself. Ask your recruiter/school where your apartment will be. If it's Byeongjeom (most likely) I can give you some info.
PS. dongtan is actually part of Hwaseong city. Try google it, I recall coming across a couple of websites (not very helpful though) when I did a search a while back.
PPS If you want some specific information on your school, PM me the name of the school you will be working for and Ill check with some of my friends if they know anything . |

its a new city, in suwon.. quiet, clean modern, there are hardly any amenities at the moment as its being developed. you should be more worried about the school. not the town.. what school is it? |

Dongtan is a new city being built outside of Hwaseong which is about 2 or 3 stops South of Suwon on the #1 line...so maybe 20 mins tops by subway. I go there everyday for work (got to love company drivers) I think it takes 20-30 mins to get there in the morning with traffic. I have a friend who lives and works there. Where she lives there are only two completed apartment buildings the rest are under construction and she has to walk 10-15 minutes to get a taxi, 20-30 to get to the subway station. So that being said it's close but it's not well developed yet. |
