It's that time again~~

The first day of second semester and I'm told straight away that I have a GEPIK orientation coming up in September.

Some of you may remember the event but I was one of the people from GEPIK who was told two days before the start date that the orientation was canceled due to lack of space or some other pathetic reason.

So, has anyone else heard of this yet?

Yup, started a thread 6 weeks ago about it.

Razz

When I first found out.

Not worried about it. I can go or not go, tis upto me.

That's the way I like it.

I know i saw that but I couldn't find it today for some reason...

You think that's in danger of getting canceled too? I was kind of suspicious that they're starting to tell us waaay early. It's quite.... unusual and unsettling.

I think it starts on September 10th. For teachers that didn't go in the spring, it seems like a complete waste of time. I'm sure there is some valuable information that could be gained by attending, but what's the point of an "orientation" for teachers that have already been teaching and living here for at least 6 months?

The GEPIK orientation is for newbies only from what I was told on the phone this afternoon in a matter of fact way by the person I spoke with...The patronage of the people in that office is enough to set your hair own fire...They have people who hardly know how to speak English in charge of running things that are extremely important, and then you are treated like a simp when you ask a question...That is why I generally try not to ask them any questions...Sorry for the negative vibes here, but those people could certainly use some sensitivity training in how to deal with people they are supposed to be helping...

Sensitivity is not a Korean cultural trait...I fear you're taking an ethnocentric tack on this... Razz

The new HR person asked me to tell any local teachers who hadn't recieved the fax about the orientation and who haven't attended before to go. Little does she know I am a recluse and don't talk to anybody.

I did mention that I knew of another teacher in the area who never heard about them either, Would you like me to contact her on your behalf?

Thanks spliff, I needed that...I have been working my behind off lately and then talking to a woman on the phone that is obviously way in over her head regarding what she should know and be capable of doing in her position was the straw that broke the camel's back...Funny that these people don't have a clue about what is normal and decent, but if a foreigner makes one mistake (not speaking from personal experience) then they are quick to label them as a problem in the system...It quickly became apparent when I was speaking on the phone to this person that some people get their positions because they know exactly who's rear they should be kissing to get an in...
