|
|
For those who have stayed at the same public school beyond their first contract, are there any perks that you didn't get in the first year? I'm not yet halfway through my current contract, but lately I've been thinking it might not be so bad to sign on for a second year.
My feeling is that other teachers will open up to you more, a lighter schedule, more helpful admin, and a general increase in the respect shown from students and faculty. Any insights? |

For me, it is about same same...The kids are more respectful. They know the rules and I no longer hear Aprika tika tika and anyone who has started has been whacked by other students. I think that's a perk, saves me from having to whack them myself The teachers have always been pretty nice but I keep my distance and they respect that.
My schedule is actually heavier but they reworked it so that I finish all my regular classes by lunch and have the rest of the day to do extra classes, paper work or internet surfing..... |

Yeah your schedule is hectic.
M - 3 classes
T - 4
W - 3
TH - 4
F - 4
18/week
I don't know what the benefits would be and I won't be able to find out because even though I'd like to stay on for another 6 months, my school is saying that I have to sign on for a year or nothing at all |

I would consider staying at this school since it's pretty laid back. My principal is a decent bloke however he is leaving at the end of this semester and I may end up with a nutter. Bit of a worry. Do I negotiate in December/January. Do I wait to meet the new principle and see if he is a buffoon or not? |

My schedule
Monday
3 classes
3 extra classes
Tuesday
3 classes
3 extra classes
Wednesday
4 classes
1 after school class (2 periods)
1 extra conversation class
Thursday
4 classes
1 after school class
Friday
4 classes
1 after school class
Extra classes are open to all students and are free...
After school classes required an entrance exam and they have to pay.
But both extra and after school classes count as overtime for me. |

Right now my classes are:
M-3
T-4
W-4
Th-3
F-4
I have three preps / week--total 18 hrs. I heard the last teacher there only had 15 hrs in the fall semester though. Maybe if I signed on for another year I could negotiate a lighter schedule? Not that I'm complaining, btw. |

Do schools negotiate?
My school offered me sweet f*all other than a "so, do you want to stay?", check yes/no. |

Sarcasm duly noted.
M 6 classes plus 2 hrs of extra classes
T 5 classes
W 4
R 6 classes plus 2 hrs of extra classes
F 5 classes
Used to have two extra hrs of extra class on Tues and Thurs as well. Luckily, VP put an end to that. |

Oh...
Basically it's a rather rude and racist way of saying that I'm a spear chucking African... |

If the kids have been to Everland then that isn't surprising. |

I was doing
M 6 (3 reg 3 after school)
T 5 (2 reg 3 " ")
W 5 ("")
T 5 ("")
F 3 (1 reg 2 afterschool)
My contract was for 25 classes a week, all afterschool classes were free and counted as regular hours.
I'm changing schools next month, hopefully I'll get a a lighter class load. |

Or read comic books, or their school books or watch TV, or talk to friends....I could go on and on....
Besides, it's been 3 years...it's not that surprising since most people here do not know or remember the chosun chicken commercials with Africans with their trusty spears eating fried chicken, but that's getting way off track.... |
