Or whatever the show is called.. I have absolutely no interest in what they talk about .. it's just responses to bland predictable rhetorical questions.
But i am curious.. what are these women's professions in Korea? that they have acquired the skill to speak Korean well (with the exception of the Italian woman). |

^ usually they are students studying at korean university from what i remember.
i think usually they learned korean from school, or their boyfriends or friends i'd imagine.
a lot of the girls from chat with beauties are now are working in the korea tourism office too. so some of them have government jobs in the korean government, which is quite prestigious. |

I wonder what their day-to-day lives are like; if they have a complete submersion in Korean culture and language. |

It's okay these days for international students in Korea on student visas to pick up extra part-time work but if on an 'E' visa, I would hope that their jobs are registered with immigration.
Who cares what they do in real life, just that this work is legit. I imagine a few of them are married to Koreans. |

What they do in real life would show a different side of Korea than what some ESL teachers might see. Maybe they like it because they are part of a different scene.
Or, maybe they go through the same stuff and complain about it. Thats why itd be interesting to know. |

you know, now that i think about it, i think u are completely right.
honestly, a lot of the stereotypes of ESL teachers here, about being angry and grumpy and carrying a lot of cultural baggage, did not apply to foreign western students in Korean universities that I have met. and i have known and met quite a few.
the foreign students in Korean universities that I met were some of the nicest, most considerate people I have ever known. I definitely think that foreign students are completely different than what I encouter on dave's.
it could be because they are by self selecting nature, came to korea to learn about korean culture, language, and to learn about another country. |

Just curious, where did you get this from? I have been in Korea for eight months and have never thought this to be true about ESL teachers in Korea. Maybe you have formulated this opinion based on a few posters on Dave's, which is not even close to representing the true ESL teaching population. Do you have any concrete proof of this other than anecdotal stories from "friends that they told you this or that", or "one time this or that", or "lots of this or that"? Just curious. |
