Hi,
I bought a car last weekend, so now I need to start figuring out official stuff. Does anyone know how I can switch my licence from my Canadian one to a Korean one? Particularily, where do I go and how much will it cost?

I tried to search for this one on existing threads, but no luck.

Also, any tips for driving in Korea without dying would be helpful.

Thanks!
J

Go to the driver's license office. There is one near world cup stadium and one in gangnam. All you do is take a eye test and convert your Canadian one. It cost less then 20,000 won. Very easy takes 20 minutes max. We even have our own line.

So you bought the car BEFORE knowing what legally driving it would entail? I wish I had enough money to buy a car and worry about the formalities afterwards.

Wow, everyone's a bit cranky today, eh? Must be the cold weather.

Actually, I'm in Seoul now. Was in Gunsan before. Can anyone give me more specific directions to the office in Gangnam?

Also, for the person who was complaining that they don't have enough money blah blah blah. Stop whining and start working!!!

lol. Just kidding. The car in question cost 300,000.

I'm a girl, not a guy.

There, all misunderstandings cleared up.
Much love,
J

And you are just another useless, waste of time troll.
Crawl back into the off-topic forums where you belong or better yet, since you went home
(or claimed you were going home) at the end of July, just stay off the boards.

Thanks so much for the help from the last two people!
That's perfect. Will do tomorrow. You have both earned a free ride in my 300,000W car if you want one.

Again, it's amazing what you can find with the search function or by actually reading. I gave you the link to the thread where I posted these same directions for the Gangnam location:

I went today and got my license. Here are the directions to the Gangnam branch, in case anyone needs to go there in the future.

Go to Samsung station, exit 1. Walk straight about 100 meters. Turn right towards the Gangnam police station. It's the first building on the left after the police station. Go to the 2nd floor, take a ticket for 외국면허. After waiting a while, the woman working there will tell you which sections to fill out. Go back down to the first floor and buy 12,000W worth of stamps and stick them on your application. Go out towards the market, but go past that to take the physical test (simple eye exam and you do 1 squat). Then go back to the 2nd floor, get another ticket, show your application, then go to the 4th floor, take the written test (if you're American), then go back to the 2nd floor, get ANOTHER ticket, give your application, wait an hour and you're finally done!
