My mom in the USA is willing to take our dog Casey, if we are unable to bring him with us to Switzerland when we move. Has anyone ever sent a pet overseas without being on the plane the pet was being sent on? (if that makes sense) Does anyone know where to find more information on this possibility?
Before I get berated, we had a back up home set up for our dog, but the primary potential caretaker very shockingly died at the beginning of the summer. |

Geez- sorry about the death... I don't know about sending him home overseas, but when I lived in the states, I had my dog shipped domestically without a problem (I had brought her home with me during Christmas break, but she ate some rat poison that my dad had sprinkled behind the woodpile- he really didn't think Blue could get back there. Anyway, the vet didn't want my dog travelling for 6 weeks, so I had to return without her). I would make sure you sedate Casey, but I'm sure you already know that's recommended.
Here's the website for KAL cargo. They ship animals all the time, but I don't know if they are the cheapest option.

Most the major Airlines will ship your dog without you. Go to the websites and the information is pretty detailed - or give them a call. DELTA air is very pet concious so I can recommend their service, but I am sure many others are well equipped to ship safely also. |

Thanks! I'm glad to hear that it can be done, and hearing about firsthand experience helps too! I assume it will be a bit pricey, but we're really running out of options. Thanks so much. Periwinkle, I may contact you about this again, probably on the other site or on Facebook, if you don't mind. |

It can/has been done. A mate of mine had his pooch (Rott) shipped to NC, USA, all by her lonesome.
Which carrier? I can not recall...it was 2002....but doable. Just contact the airlines and suss out the details with them...they'll know.
!shoosh,
