I told my public school that they should pay my taxi to 3 schools instead of me paying it, now they are angry. They started picking me up but have called me unappreciative and they think i should pay. So, rather than them being angry I will take the bus, which makes them angry because it causes problems with class times. So, it's either me pay 40 bucks for a taxi or they pick me up angry. i really hate this job. My recruiter told me i would be making 2.0 won but when i got here it was changed to 1.9 won. now this nonsense and i teach one class for free.
Is there such a thing as transferring to another school through gepik and how does one do that? How do you contact gepik? Can another recruiter find me a transfer to another public school? The recruiter i used was deceptive. thanks |

The simple answer is to tell them that if they won't pay you the OT for the class you won't teach it, problem solved. |

You did the right thing regarding the taxi situation...The admins in some of the various places will take every advantage they can. They not only are taking away your rural stipend, but they are penalizing you for catching them at their own game...It's a shame and it should be reported to the labor board...I find it quite interesting when school admins make you feel like you are taking their personal money...Too many of the admins have become accustomed to siphoning off the extra money for their pet projects. It is English budget money and they would never have access to it, except the MOE gives them the autonomy to spend the funds at their discretion...Some choose to pocket extra cash and use it for things it was never intended to be used for... |

I would suggest talking to GEPIK .... Another recruiter won't be able to help you ... Your E2 visa is tied to this job ...
If you are in GEPIK then you will probably be ... = should be attending the orientation from 10th-14th September ... which is just over a week ago now ... That will give you a good chance to get to know some other people ... and get some answers to your questions ... And hopefully find a good solution ...
If you don't know about the orientation (ie haven't been told that it is on ... Which is all I know at the moment)... let the know and I will see if my main Co-teacher can give me the details of someone you can call and ask about it (Working between several schools could I think make normal communication ... which is not always great here .. even harder...)

If the problem is not solved locally, at your school, then contact your MOE or POE, after that it's GEPIK (EPIK or SMOE), always copy your Recruiter with any communications that you think require action or money.
Keep receipts and records of money and time.
Don't be overly anxious, be patient and persistent you are working with a bureaucracy after all.

I'd tell them that you're planning to leave because the taxi costs are too much, and you're not saving enough. Be really apologetic, and say that you really like the place, but it's just costing you too much, and you have a job offer waiting for you back home.
They'll spend more to find a new teacher, and will cave before they let you go (unless you suck, and they want you gone anyway).
Be seriously prepared to just leave. |

I personally find the salary change believable especially when he has said that a recruiter was involved .... I was in a similar situation ... The salary I was offered was 2.2 (direct with school through recruiter rather than the big organisation) ... I accepted job on that basis ... When I needed to sign a new contract after I got here ... in large measure because the initial contract the recruiter had sent was not the correct contract with other differences than salary .. the first contrat did have 2.1 (which is the salary for the appropriate GEPIK level for me on it) ... But I had accepted the job in part because it did have the higher salary ... Negotiation time later ... I will sign for the other changes if my intially agreed upon salary and one month notice period stay the same ... I did keep it ... But it is not necessarily an easy thing to stand up for when you have just arrived in the country ... I was lucky that I had been mere a month ... so was a little more comfortable and know to choose which battles I would fight for ... But faced with this as soon as I arrived I don't think I would have been able to cope with in the same way ... It is a very different culture to what we are used to ... So I do find it easy to understand how OP had the problem he did ... I also hope that he can hold on until the orientation ... which I do actually think help him to decide what to do ... and give him the support he needs here ... It is not easy for those of us who are literally the ony fluent english speaker in our schools ...
