hi, my life situation has made it so that i need a steady and dependable 3 million won a month to stay in korea after this contract. i currently work in a hagwon but someone suggested that the best way to meet my financial needs is to work in a public shool and look for additional part time work in hagwons. What do you think is the feasability of finding legal part time work at the hagwons with an f2 visa after public school hours and/or on the weekends? thanks for your advice |

A lot of contracts will have an exclusivity clause which states that you may only work at one location during the terms of your contract. If you're on an F2 visa however then you can try to negotiate something with the school. With your visa you have a lot more power than someone on an E2 who is locked into their school. If your hagwon won't allow you to work elsewhere during your free time you can just quit and find somewhere that will. Of course you should get everything sorted out with immigration though before you start working.
Public schools finish at 4:30 or 5. If I were you and had an F2 I wouldn't even bother trying to work in a hagwon part time. I would just teach privately and make way more money than a hagwon could pay.
I also suggest posting this thread here: http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=75788&start=90
because this thread will probably get locked for mentioning privates

If you're working in a public school full-time, you can't really do outside extra work as it violates some sort of public servant rule. If it is in the benefit of the school, though, as in you do something prestigious like publish books, it would be fine. However, if you're F-2 (married to a Korean?) I suggest your spouse teach kids at home, except you do the teaching. |
