my co-teacher came by the apartment yesterday. when i opened the door, the cat mewed, and she looked like she had just seen (heard?) a ghost. i had to motion for her that it was okay and that she could come in.

Odd Job just loves people, so soon he was going around her legs and putting his scent on her. every time he touched her, she let out a little squeak.

i held him on my lap most of the time.

i guess what i should have done was get him purring and then say 'he's never done this before. here, hold him.'

Yeah, pretty sad to be that scared of a cat.
I've got a friend (Korean girl) who moves to the other side of the sidewalk when one of those little rat like dogs is near (even on a leash)...
I don't know if its part of the princess act ...
...or if she really believes they are dangerous...but how sad to be that disconnected from animals that you just run from the sight of them...

Koreans generally dont like cats. I heard there's some kind of legend about cats which makes them seem creepy. My friend likened touching a cat to touching a snake.

Hi K!
I have been talking to the nieghborhood stray and her baby for awhile. Yesterday I found her and two babies taking shelter from the rain under my balcony. I broke down and bought some dry food for them. I set out the food as I was leaving for dinner. I came back to find them on my balcony. They had dragged up someone's chicken garbage and left the dry food. Oh well, Maybe they will come to realise there is food besides garbage.

They are very skiterish after being chased by just about everyone on the block. I hope to gain their trust.

My boyfriend's (Korean) mother was staying with us for a while, and she was MOST displeased with the 3 cats we currently have running around.

She told me a story of a couple she knew. The couple had a cat. The couple then had a baby. Apparently, the cat KILLED the baby, then proceeded to kill the couple, and now they're dead.

Very dangerous animals, she assured me.

Cats suck the air out of a room and cause SIDS. It's the smell of milk that lures them to the infant and makes them go mad with jealousy.

It was final exam time in unveristy. After the exam was over there was a lot of stirring around. I checked, one of the girls had a kitten in her bag, it had slept through the darned exam and then woke up mewing.

It was a pleasant break from the usual panic and sad students. Koreans are slowly coming around on cats

So, is Korean hell a sealed room with a really comfortable bed, a fan that can't be turned off and a cat?

My buddy got a cat for a Korean friend. She called him up in a panic saying he had to come get the cat because it kept growling at her. He got there and it had been purring loudly. I wonder how long it had her cornered...
