Out on my bike yesterday, going down a hill, I felt this sudden stinging pain on my thigh. I hear something buzz away. I look down and all I see is a big hole in my shorts with some insect debris hanging around it.. My skin is big and swollen and there is a large red hole in the middle.

Today, the pain is gone but theres a large, blue bruise.

Is this what happens when one is stung by a bee or wasp?

No. Bee or wasp stings normally go away after about an hour.

Sounds more like what happens when you make Vladimir Putin mad.

Are you Russian?

See a doctor.

Today.

Neither, from your description.

At any rate, most of the time when people say they were stung by a bee, they were actually stung by a wasp.

Who knows, they might have killer wasps here, but that is not what happens back in NA.

Spend the 3,000 won. SEE A DOCTOR.

Really, you should not be asking for serious medical advice that you actually intend to follow on an ESL board.

We are not doctors, and we cannot see your injury.

On the other hand, after you see a doctor, you are certainly welcome to tell us all about it, and how well you recover.

If he has to amputate, please let us know.

I saw hundreds of wasps flying around last year, (the kids would go nuts if they flew inside the classroom,) & very few bees, so the statistical likelihood is that it was a wasp. I got stung by a hornet one time in Oz, & a rash appeared all the way up my arm but went away after a few hours.

How do you know? You don't even know what caused your problem. You don't know the local bugs, illnesses. I can assure you that Asia is not Canada.

From what you describe, this could easily become infected. In the old days, without antibiotics, they might have had to amputate such an infection. Do you know what gangrene is? (Hint: it is not green.) You could develop a fever. You could have to be hospitalized. Your insurance might not cover all of these expenses.

YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG.

Or you could let Darwin's principle of natural selection take its course.

Generally speaking, a bee will leave its stinger in you, especially if it stung you bad enough to leave a bruise. Probably a wasp. Probably not life threatening. Only see a doctor if you have other symptoms like rash or nausea.
