I have follow this case from almost day 1. These boys did not rape that woman, and at worst were racially rude to her (though even that is disputed). I'm very glad to see that justice has been served in this situation.

Quote:
of North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper will announce that he is dismissing all charges against three Duke Lacrosse players, ABC News has learned from sources close to the case.

The three players, Reade Seligmann, David Evans and Collin Finnerty, were facing charges of first degree kidnapping and first degree forcible sexual offense. The charges stem from an off-campus party on the night of March 13, 2006.

In the hours after the party, one of two dancers hired to perform for the players claimed she had been violently raped in a bathroom by members of the lacrosse team. The players had also been indicted for first degree rape, but that charge was dismissed on Dec. 22, 2006.

Special prosecutors from the Attorney General's office took over the case after Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong recused himself in January, citing charges of unethical conduct filed against him by the North Carolina Bar. Since then, Jim Coman and Mary Winstead have examined the case from scratch, interviewing key witnesses and working through reams of evidence.

The reasons that will be cited for the dismissal are not yet known, though the case has been riddled with criticism and colored by controversy since its early months. Defense attorneys released documents showing the accuser changed key details of her story in the weeks and months after the alleged assault.

Legal analysts and forensic experts have criticized what they call a critically flawed photo identification lineup a lineup that led to the identification and indictment of Evans, Finnerty, Seligmann. No DNA evidence was found matching any lacrosse players with samples from the rape kit, while DNA from unidentified men was found on the accuser's body and clothing.

On Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the Attorney General confirmed to ABC News that his office had completed its investigation into the Duke lacrosse case. A press conference on the outcome of their inquiry is widely expected sometime this week, though members of that office have not yet revealed a date and time.

It is worth noting that the biggest losers in cases like this are women who actually have been raped. Liars like this one just make it harder for the legitimate cases to earn the attention they deserve. Rape is a horrible crime and crying wolf makes it even worse.

I think they got justice, but not enough. Justice would be for Mike Nifong to spend the rest of his life behind bars for violating his oath of office, and would be for every professor, dean, staff member and student at Duke University who called those players rapists, to go down on their knees in the university quad and beg forgiveness to those players.

Man...if I were one of those players...

I'd sue the university...Mike Nifong...everyone in his office...his two best friends...the law school that gave him his degree...the women who falsely accused me...every professor who kicked me out of their class or gave me a failing grade for simply being accused...every G*D* posturing wingnut who made a nasty look or comment...I'd be in court until I had their cars, their houses...and I'd make the university publish a written apology and have it published as a full-page ad in the New York Times once a month, every month, for three years...

...and I still wouldn't be satisfied. Evil or Very Mad

exactly...nifong needed the high profile case to get re-elected and he burned them at the stake since he saw an oppurtunity for personal gain.
It's not like they can sue the hooker. What money does she have? They lost a year of schooling and possibly a tional championship season. Not to mention everyone knows what those guys look like now. I say they should get a public apology from the State's attorney's office and a settlement.

With all due respect this is not the case. American's, ne Westerners, have the attention spans of nats. With Anna Nicole's baby, Sanjhai, Mary Kay Leternou, blah blah blah these guys will have no problem returning to ordinary lives especially outside of the Duke community.

Plus they have a knockdown, locked in motherf*cker of a lawsuit against the woman, the prosecutor and the school. These boys have basically hit the lottery.

umm sue the woman and get what?
the school? what did they do wrong? I guarantee they have a policy of "suspending" student allegedly involved in acts that violate the student conduct code. The only person they have a chance against is Nifong.

You're probably right about the woman, but that doesn't mean you don't sick the dogs after her as payback. As for the school, I didn't follow the case as closely as others, but there seemed to be a clear rush to judgement on the part of the Uni, they should have followed protocol and said we won't comment or make any decsions until the case is finished, even if Al "nutbar" Sharpton and Jessie "Hymie Town" Jackson show up.

Some background on the Duke case:

1. The alleged rapist was shown a photo array - consisting ONLY of Duke lacrosse players:
http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=1877707&page=1

2. Nifong arrested a defense witness that placed one of the accused elsewhere during the crime, in order to intimidate the witness:

3. Nifong hid DNA evidence that could have exonerated the accused FOR NINE MONTHS:
http://www.newsobserver.com/1185/story/521017.html

4. Two of the lacrosse players were barred from attending university for a semester, even though they had never been convicted of anything:

5. One government agency continued to defame the lacrosse players as rapists, 18 days after the charges against them had been dropped:

I don't think so.

Suppose Nifong and the woman had successfully managed to get away with their fraud, and those three men had gone to jail for goodness knows how long - for something that they didn't do?

Do you remember Carla Holmolka? She got away with raping and murdering her own sister by fooling a gullible prosecutor and police department into thinking she was a 'battered wife'. They gave her the politically-correct benefit of the doubt, and now she walks the streets of Montreal. Feminism allowed her to get away with murder, basically.

You're damn right she should have the dogs sicked on her.

That's one of the worst things about it... It isn't like there's a professional lacrosse league or anything for them to play again later. This was one of their glory years in a sport in which they were the best in the world. Sad.

Just because a school has a code of conduct, all of them do I would think, does not mean that they can act in any manner they wish. They have legal and ethical obligations and any good lawyer, I think, would destroy Duke, plus I think they would fold in a minute rather than go through another day of bad publicity. And the prosecutor is dead man civilly.

they are a private school and also happen to have a much better law program than the one the nifong went to. Who are the boys gonna get?

"Today's class will be spent dreaming up possible continounouses (sp?) for the upcoming legal case against our school. You are not allowed to leave until you come up with a new one."
