I'm not going to go into details but one of the teachers quit at my school. Has anyone else's school gone through this. How did they handle it. Did they ask you to take on more classes?

Kind of hard to change all of the students' schedules to accomodate a missing teacher. Were your classes at the same time? Might mean a higher class load. Or students will just leave. Hard to say. Guess they should find a new teacher. Them the breaks and they should be prepared for this sort of thing.

Yeah, I've always been kinda hard on runners 'cause it puts a harsh burden on those left behind. When I was at a hagwon I'd just pick up the overtime and go with it.

After all, teaching a few extra classes isn't working 12s on a framing crew...

They left for a personal reason.(Death in the family) So, it wasn't anyone can control.

Fair 'nuff. To answer your original question - they just split the load between those still working. I was always okay with that.

If they increased the student numbers on me, I'd simply ask for more money. "Sure I'll teach everyone. Give me more money though."

OT is your friend. Don't get suckered into working for free as some managers will pull the "for the good of the school" BS.

In my first year one of the English teachers quit / was forced to resign / basically got sacked. They made the grade one English teachers bigger, I and the other two English teachers had to cover more, and I learned that teaching academic classes solo is way better than 'co-teachie'.

I had people on either side of my employment for the hagwon I was at when I first came to Korea, but never experienced it personally...The hagwon in those cases split the classes between the other teachers and worked out some additional pay for them, BUT it was not at the same rate as their normal wage...This actually worked out to be less than a good deal for them...Just hope they can find a new recruit soon, and it will make your job much easier to handle...

Happened at my uni last semester. The guy just up and left during the time he was supposed to do his archiving. If he had just done the archiving THEN left no one would have been the wiser for another 6 weeks or so.

His classes (as few as there were) were taken by other teachers.

There is a pool of temps and part timers that schools hire to fill in. I am assuming they come from an agency or a recruiter or are freelancers with F2 visas or are illegal freelancers on tourist visa. We got a part timer 3 times a week for 2 hours a day due to a few extra afternoon classes offered while the full time foreign teachers are all teaching at the same time. I don't know if it is all legal and don't care as I know I am legal and as long as I get paid and taken care of.

We also have a 3 month temporary FT to fill in until we get a new teacher.

Looks like we are also in immediate need of another teacher as we have a no show of who was hired to arrive here and start a few days ago. And if they don't start treating me better, they will need another one as well, quite immediately one of these days. I have a hunch they are working on getting 2 or 3 more teachers which will take 2 to 3 months to actually acquire and then fire me, possibly October or November, 1 or 2 months before my contract is up. I think they are hating on me due to weight gain as image is everything here.
