I am sort of interested in these VHS tapes (their content), but I am wondering if they (American system) VHS tapes can be converted in Korea to work on an American laptop. If not, are multi-system players here very cheap?
Thanks.. |

I have a samsung combo player (tape/dvd) and I think I paid just over 100k for it a year and a half or so ago.
Alternatively you can get a video card with VIVO (video in - video out) or a firewire card for your computer to hook up to your combo player (make sure your combo player has firewire out) that will allow you to convert tape to digital video then burn it to VCD or DVD. |

If a friend has a PMP (Cowon, iStation, etc) with video in, you should be able to play it from your telly into that. I believe it'll be converted to avi during this process.
Good luck. |

I have the necessary equipment here in my office in Seoul, having inherited it from a previous project. However, sounds like your requirement is reasonably simple, should be doable with any standard home entertainment system (unless we are talking about PAL or SECAM VHS tapes, and/or tapes using Macrovision). |
