As an American, the ability to provide that kind of protection for our leader would almost make me feel a bit proud, if not for the fact that Bush is such a useless twat.

The sad thing about a Democracy is that we are useless twats for electing him.

Every time he travels overseas I get the urge to revoke his citizenship and passport and leave him stranded.

So is this display of american might supposed to impress other nations? If so, it does the opposite. Agreed, Bush is a useless *beep*. But thats beside the point. He is still represents the US and his actions do tend to reflect on americans in general. Carrying on in this fashion (ie, strutting around displaying wealth and weaponry) only enhances the anti-american attitudes that many countries hold. Surely whats good enough for all the other APEC leaders should be good enough for bush....

no...... nothing to do with jealousy. I guess I didn't describe it too well...

Imagine you decide to hold a house party for a few mates you haven't seen for a while. You've put on the barbeque... a few gourmet sausages, a well stocked beer fridge. Hell, you've even organized a couple of limo's to pick up your mates arriving at the airport. All's good. Your friends all arrive, thanking you for your hospitality etc. The barbeque kicks off, everybody having a good time. Then your american mate shows up. Turning up his nose at your offer to pick him up at the airport, he has at great expense, flown his own car to the airport. With an over the top entourage of servants and other staff he arrives at your house.... and procedes to get his own chef to cook his own meal on his own personal barbeque. Refusing to use your own toilet facilities, he then orders the construction of his own gleaming bathroom throne in the backyard....

Now whats the feeling of the host, other guests and neighbours in general? Jealousy? Or an overwhelming thought of "Jeez... what a dickhead!"

It's obviously not meant as just a grandiose display. Bomb-proof vehicles, weaponry, helicopters, bodyguards.. it's about ensuring the president is not assassinated, as leaders so often are.

yeah, i guess...

I suppose there are a lot of people out there who would like to see him shot, blown-up, ddong-chimmed, or publicly disembowelled.....

Makes you wonder how dedicated the security guards are to their job.....
If a speeding bullet is observed approaching the president, do the closest guards decide to maybe check their shoelaces or something.....
