When it comes to wolfing wings, Sonya Thomas is a wiz.
The 48kg competitive eater who goes by The Black Widow bested a dozen beefy rivals Saturday night, scoffing 173 wings in 12 minutes to win the wing-eating contest at the National Buffalo Wing Festival.
"That's 5.17 pounds (2.35kg) of wings," said Brian Kahle, spokesman for the annual event in the city where Buffalo wings were born.
Thomas, 40, who is originally from South Korea and now lives in Alexandria, Virginia, also held the festival's previous record of 161 wings in 12 minutes, set in 2004.
"She's the crowd favourite," Kahle said. "It was 12 huge guys and her."
Thomas has set numerous records in competitive eating events including 37 hot dogs in 12 minutes, 35 bratwursts in 10 minutes, 11 pounds of cheesecake in 9 minutes, 44 lobsters in 12 minutes and 250 Tater Tots in 5 minutes.
What a woman!!,Go Girl! Just goes to show that if you're good at using metal chopsticks, you can do anything. |

What? She is from Korea. She's Korean mate.
"Scotticus, who is originally from the USA and now lives in South Korea." Do you now consider yourself Korean? |

Terrible example. As a white male, I can live in Korea my entire life and never BE Korean, nor can I have citizenship (outside of some very rare circumstances). However, as you should be aware, being American is based on your citizenship, not your blood. If you live in the US, revoke your Korean citizenship (as Korea doesn't allow dual-citizenship) and get an American passport, you may be ethnically Korean, but you're American. If she's an American citizen, she's American.
Speaking of which (although this thread was obviously tongue-in-cheek), I've always taken a perverse pleasure in pointing out to Koreans that all of the world-famous "Koreans" are actually American (Michelle Wie, Hynes Ward, Daniel Henney, etc). |

Show me where it said she was an American citizen. People don't need a piece of paper to tell them where they're from. She was born in Korea. She's Korean.
The majority of Americans are immigrants.
As for the 'perverse pleasure' you get: Whatever gets you through the night mate. |

Maybe where you're from, blood is more important. Where I'm from, that's not the case. I don't tell people I'm Italian or Polish when they ask me where I'm from...

Mate,

She's been an American since 1997. Love it or hate it, it's pretty easy to be and American. Sorry, mate.
By the way, you can have Rupert Murdoch back anytime you want, mate. |

Where you born in Italy or Poland Scotticus?
You Americans always become confused about nationality and citizenship. They are not the same. Perhaps it's because of your lack of proper ancestory.
I guess the only way we'll really know the answer is by asking the woman herself.
Mehmeh: you seem to have alot of time on your hands, perhaps you could do it. |

What, like inbreeding? Meh, it was definitely popular in some parts of the properly ancestrized world, but it has it's drawbacks, in my humble opinion... |

11 pounds of cheesecake? Wow -- according to calorie counters, that's about 16,000 calories.
I normally consume about 5,000-5,500 calories a day (and in so doing I am almost always full); her record more than triples my daily consumption in under 10 minutes.
