Since I've been here I've been hitting the weights pretty hard. I am fairy knowledgeable about the actually lifting weights part, but not the Nutrition. I want to get bigger... what kind of weight should I be lifting and what kind of stuff should I be eatting? I need more protein I think, but hardly any of their food has it and the supplements cost and arm and a leg to buy.... suggestions?

If you're over 25 gaining mass is fairly easy; consume more calories than you burn and keep up with a rigorous lifting regimen.

In terms of getting "bigger," understand genetics play a huge role.

Simple: To gain weight, eat more than you expend. No exceptions.

A decent rule of thumb for protein consumption is 1g protein per pound of lean (non-fat) bodymass. Estimating is fine. Whey protein supplements are best taken directly after your workout, preferentially with simple carbohydrates (choose your sugar, basically). Other supplements will generally yield diminishing value returns unless you're at major competitive level; speaking as someone at that point, I still don't bother with most supplements.

Just eat, really. I find peanut butter to be the best all-around weight-gainer food (for me, anyway): It's calorically dense, it has a high concentration of unsaturated fats, and it has a fair amount of protein. That said, sometimes I get really sick of eating peanut butter.

Okay, I got a question too!

How does one keep motivated? I can only watch the MMA on the tv in front of my treadmill for a few months before get bored of the whole routine and I throw in the towel to go eat pizza.

I like lifting heavy shiat. Lifting heavy shiat helps me lift heavier shiat. I rock the hell out to punk and rock on my MP3 player and do my thing.

Thanks for the tips. Yeah I guess I should have specified a little bit better. I don't really need to gain weight. I am 200pounds, 6"2 fairly strong. I am wanting to cut out some weight around the mid section, but gain muscle mass.

So what is the best way to lose fat and gain muscle. Right now in my workouts I've been doing 20 minutes of cardio with plenty of core work. Then I have been doing 2 upper body work outs and 2 lower body work outs per week. I am just affraid that I will not get any bigger from lifting weights as I dont' believe that I am taking enough calories/protein in.

Basically my rationale right now (correct me if i'm wrong). Is that I will lose fat if I do a lot of cardio, and gain muscle if I work out hard and take in a lot of calories and protein?

Thanks for the tips so far.

Generally this is impossible unless you're a newbie to exercise or taking drugs/hormones.

You're wrong. Cardio simply burns calories. Fat is stored and burned in genetically predisposed patterns.

I generally refrain from participating in these threads because there's so much misinformation and I hate getting into pissing contest. PM me if you have more questions.
