Just to let you know that two of us will be starting a Civ game soon across the internet, so if anyone would like to join in, let me know. Times/dates are negotiable depending on individual circumstances. It's only for fun.

Anyone want to start a game of FreeCiv? Just like civilization, but free (as the name implies) I love that game but can't find people to play a lot of the time.

how does the multiplayer even work? being a turn based game, do most of the players just sit around like dolts while one guy micromanages all of his cities?
or is it the sort of thing where everyone just checks in whenever they have a chance to see whether it's their turn or not? either way, it seems like it would take ages. particularly during the beginning when all you've got to do is move a settler around to where you want to build your first couple of cities.
hey... maybe we could start a game now, and i will have bought a new computer by the time my turn comes around.
just kidding. i'll give this thread a bump, though, when i do finally break down and buy a new one.

It is turn-based, though this can be edited. Turns are generally timed, and there are things to do while you're waiting. It does take awhile, but not as long as you'd think. There seems to be a rejuvenation of interest in the game now, so once I get a few definites, I'll make the arrangements.
