I'm now at a uni, and I am relatively new, so I just kind of follow the lead of what's going on. It's very common for the staff here to give no notice of anything whatsoever. So when two guys approached me between my class, asking to talk to my students about an upcoming TOEIC test, I expected it was some kind of school announcement. My uni sometimes has admin. people come to my class to make annoucements about things like TOEIC stuff, etc., so I thought all was normal.
Something seemed a little odd, however, when the guys who came in to "talk to my students for 10 minutes" asked me to leave the room while they talked. I became suspicious, and phoned my boss.
My boss is like, "Who are they?? They don't have authorization... let me talk to them!"
I stop the guy from talking and promptly give him the phone. He doesn't want to take it, and they two guys begin to bow sheepishly with a shit grin and walk out. I sort of stand in front of him and kindly let him know that I expect him to talk to my boss. He sheepishly agrees, and she basically tells him in no uncertain terms to get the hell off of our campus.
I then returned to class and apologized to the students. They said the guys were from a TOEIC hagwon, and were trying to recruit students and get information about how they are studying for the TOEIC, etc..
I then informed them that what they did was dishonest, and they would be better off not attending that hagwon.
Just a word of warning. I never expected anything so brazen. |

...are always asked who the hell they are and what they want to talk to my students about. If I don't like the answers (ie. not uni related), they get the boot. |

Malarkey. The LDS missionaries conduct their one hour English lessons on a Saturday and on one weeknight. The lessons are free as they're conducted for community service. It is explained at the very beginning that there will be a religious message.
The missionaries do not go into hagweons and "poach" nor is it a quid pro quo thing. The lessons are conducted at the church; however, there is no requirement to attend church services to get the lessons. |

| I think I get it now. It's a reference to those late 1960s/early 1970s "get high on life" commercials. |
