Hey gang!
Does anyone know of a youth hostel near or in the Itaewon area?
I live in Yangpyeong province and would have to spend the night
in a hotel in downtown Seoul just to get my share of night life
in the real city. I dont care to part with my money to pay cab fare
to get back to the other side of town after getting my share of soju and
beer. My Korean is not that good, yet!
Let me know!

i don't know of a hostel in itaewon. i've seen a couple near namsan tower, but there's really no nightlife there. there is the hilltop hotel in itaewon though, 30,000 won a night, and really the rooms aren't bad. it is, as the name implies, on top of hooker hill, and a stone's throw from polly's kettle house, which is a pretty fun bar after 2 a.m. or so. you can get to the hotel by walking up the hill past all the hookers, or you can avoid them entirely by walking up the stairs near rocky mountain tavern. |

or you could pay less than 10,000 and just stay in a jimjilbang around there. I know there's one in the bottom of hte Hamilton, and probably aocuple of others that someone else could recommend. |

Hostels are in Jongno/Insadong area where you ride the subway to Jongo Sam Ga station or Anguk station. I rode the subway back from Itaewon of a night, but not sure if it was the last train of the night I rode at like midnight of if trains run later.
Places like Seoul Backpackers, Holiday In Korea, and a few others are in the area I mentioned, but no hostels to my knowledge in the Itaewon area. I tried to rent a yeogwan in Itaewon on my first visit, but no yeogwon of the several I went to would rent which could have to do with dissing me on being American due to local ajumma yeogwan keepers having had bad experiences with GI's over the years.
Itaewon is a great place to party, eat, and socialize, but it's not a good sleep except maybe at the Hamilton. |

to clarify, i'm american, and i had no trouble getting at the hilltop, which is definitely a yogwan. insadong is a great place to hang out during the day, but there's nothing to do at night. |
