my first year here, on a basic beginner low salary of 2.0 million a month, i found it impossible NOT to save over a thousand u.s. dollars per month despite dinner and drinks out four to five times a week and occasional travel with motel rooms.... that's 12 thou at year's end with 4 mill final pay and bonus, 16 mill without in the slightest trying at all to save anything
so, $15,000 to $20,000 u.s. is easy as can be for a newbie
more for those of us who make more |

I can see every teacher in KOrea saving $30,000 a year. The average would be more like $10,000 to 25,000 a year. It also depends on how much you make and spend each month. |

I think he is joking. Most people don't even make $30,000 a year. |

We are not supposed to save any money here in Korea.
Taking money out of Korea, how sacrosanct.
Stop saving money.
You should be spending your money on Samsung products.
You are priveliged to be enjoying a wonderful cultural experience.
Now be a good English teacher, save nothing, spend spend spend. |

Didn't we already determine this guy's a sock?
After "are K-girls easy?" and "How much money can I save?" the next question will be "Anybody hear of CDI?" |

2-3 times a week is too vague. 2-3 times per week involving Korean food and bars (hoffs) is inexpensive. Going out in Itaewon or Shinchon 2-3 per week is expensive, especially if you're not the kind of person who can go all evening on just 4 beers. For me, 2-3 times per week in Hongdae/Shinchon/Itaewon would mean I saved a helluva lot less because I'm the kind of person who orders $10 drinks (several). For me, 2-3 times per week in these areas of Seoul would cost 2-300,000, so tend to view trips there as a treat and would advise the same to anyone with ambitions of saving. |

I saved $14,000 my first year here working at a hagwon, making 2.1 mil a month. I went out maybe once a week, and went to Thailand twice. It's really not that hard. If I lived in Seoul I can see saving less. |

I went skiing, took a trip to china, and bought a motor scooter. That knocked off some money.
I think I've sent home about $8000, but there is only $4000 left in my account in the US. I'm not exactly sure where it went. |
