What was disturbing about the program is the way the police cooperated with the journalists. The police were engaging in character assasination, lies (Teachers make 2m a month plus up to 400% more doing privates) and trial by media.
Here we have the police and journos saying look at these corrupt and immoral people when they themselves are corrupt.
The reporters were allowed inside a teachers apartment.
What were they doing there? It's trespass. Obviously the police let them into the apartment. The police are sanctioning trespass, and an invasion of privacy.
A Mexican was busted. His passport (Mexican government property) was handed over to the TV crew so they could take shots of the passport.
The access the TV crew had to police interviews, police premises, and evidence was incredible.
The accused are meant to be innocent until proven guilty. This is not how they were treated.
The police here also engage in such atrotious behavior towards Korean accused.
In a country with a civilized legal system, such behavior would be enough to have a legal case dismissed as such reporting can prejudice a persons right to a fair trial.
No such thing as a fair trial in Korea, by the way. Judges basically rubber stamp, the accusations police make, just like North Korea.
In Korea the biggest criminal gangs are the police and the judiciary.
How about an investigation into the Police here, their incompetence, and the bribes they take.

And yet no one will ever blame the joke of a system Korea has set up. Barely, if any, background checking, a joke of a system to catch fake degrees, on top of the already strong xenophobia.

But really, when it comes down to it, if you're coming to a nation like Korea, you're kind of waiving any rights you'd have in a Western nation.
Remember, folks, rule of law is NOT the basis of Korean society, as such, you can't always expect innocence until proven guilt, freedom of speech/press or even freedom of property. There may be laws on the books protecting these things, but the laws are for show. On a whim they're gone, especially when the country needs a good scapegoat to focus on.

come on, if they made it very difficult to come here, no one would come here. background checks? how is a hagwon going to staff its position for NEXT WEEK if those are around?

and any increase on the amount of effort needed for a teacher to come to korea would immediately set his/her sights on japan.

i think korea realizes this - not many people truly want to be here for reasons other than money and convenience. how many japanese language institutes, even ones with bad reps (the big three) will hire on the phone? i would've had a 2 day interview over in LA if i had gone with Aeon. Imagine if Pagoda did that.

Do a search and you should find a whole list of Korean related stories, there was a good one about a Korean nightclub getting busted for drugs and lots of Koreans failing pee tests

Thankyourselves lucky we only get picked on for a bit of moonlighting and porking the local female population. Imagine how bad it would be if we were accused of chaisng their third genders as well.
