I was wondering if there are any professional wrestling organizations in Korea? |

I've seen women's wrestling on TV occasionally. So there must be some kind of pro wrestling group. |

Why ask? You're not Korean, you can't join, especially if you ride a bicycle. |

The only one I'm aware of is the KPW (or whatever they call themselves these days... they've had at numerous other names) down in their Busan-area stomping grounds. They don't usually make it up Seoul way, but tour around the smaller towns down south. They've had a few shows televised, but not regularly and not scheduled in advance.
Their eternal Champion is Lee Wang-pyo (protege of 70's pro-wrestling legend Kim Il). Nobody of any worth in the entire company. They import over Japanese wrestlers whenever they put on a show, usually from one of Japan's fringe wrestling groups like FMW or Big Japan. The "big" Japanese star always gets the title shot against Lee. Former title challengers from Japan include Jason the Terrible (aka Corporal Kirschner), Leatherface, Gladiator (aka Mike Awesome), and a few others.
There was a "reality" show about the organization a few years back where a fat Korean comedian was being trained to be a wrestler by them. It was just a show to watch him get yelled at and smacked around.
Terrible. |

Hmm, I would've thought there'd be a good market for homegrown pro wrestling. I wonder how many Korean WWE fans also watch Japanese wrestling. |

The women's wrestling you see is Japanese. It's a wrestling group called J'd Star, and the matches are at least 2 years old. The company itself has been closed down for the better part of a year now.

Hard to be a fan of Japanese puroresu (プロレス)or joshi puroresu (女子プロレス) unless you are into tape-trading. I've got quite a library of it here in Korea (and back home), but it's difficult to come by unless you know people. |
