there are some other posts about letter of release, i think i heard people say the employer can't deny it to you? shoot i don't know. i got mine no problem. but if you are looking to stay and try out another job, and the boss isn't sounding like they'll give you the LOR, contact a new potential job and i've had many offer to help me get the LOR. if this doesn't make sense, i apologize, ive been drinking. but don't fret, you're not f***ed. |

buffy, so long as you get your visa cancelled, you will not need a letter of release (synonymous with letter of termination). try to be nice/civil with your boss and all should work out in the long run. |

adding: I am not exactly sure what the employer does when it arranges to have a visa cancelled, but:
I believe that in order to get a visa cancelled, immi needs to receive a letter of release/termination.
Like I said, try to stay nice w/your employer and it should all work out. |

IMMI does NOT need a letter of release to cancel a visa. They just need the visa canceled. IMMI has nothing to do with an LOR. |

Here's what I know:
Your employer does NOT have to give you an LOR. It's completlye up to the employer
Cancelling a visa and being released from a visa are different. Your employer is legally required to cancel your visa. This means you are no longer sponsored to be in the country and your employer is no longer responsible for you. Having an LOR means you are able to work again before the expiration of your previous visa (for msot teachers the a cotnract si for one year)
It is rarely, but sometimes, possible to get released from a visa without the LOR. This usually involves a few calls from your new employer, maybe some palmgreasing, or a story of woe and mistreatment from your previous employer. Do not count on this approach to work though.
The most important thing I know is that ttompatz is the ultimate authority on this kind of stuff, so send him a PM. |

Fact: Even though this is 2007, immigration still tends to operate as if it were the stone age. They have problems with communication, and run on different interpretations of policy from office to office.
Some require an LOR, while some require the employer to indicate the visa has been cancelled. In the latter case, immi will produce their own release form that is required for a new visa to be processed.
If you are fired, your visa my be cancelled, but the necessary documentation permitting you to get a new visa may not have been created.
Some people i know have had success in just leaving the country, and returning to apply in another city. But that was quiet a while ago. |
