hey there.
im basically quite a keen dj, and i have managed to get hold of some turntables. The problem is, all my LP's (vinyl) or in storage in England, and i cant get them arranged to be sent over..... does anyone know of any store that sells records in Korea? i live in Ulsan but would be more then willing to travel up to seoul to get some.... im mainly into funk, soul, old school hiphop.. ..
if nobody knows of a store that sells them, what aboout an internet site that delivers to korea for a reasonable price?
any help would be much appreciated!
john

Purple Records in Hongdae has Hip-hop but not much else. I was talking to a friend the other week about a second hand record market she had come across in Seoul somewhere. I'm yet to visit it so don't know how appropriate it would be. Otherwise....online, online, online. I use juno.co.uk , boomkat.com and forcedexposure.com for records and beatport.com for .wavs and mp3's. That and buying directly from labels seems to get me through. Good luck.

I'm into funk, Hip Hop etc myself (amongst other genres).

Do you have a digital collection of tunes on your hard drive stretchio? If so, get some software and play mp3's. Not the same, but I fear your attempts to pick up vinyl, especially that which is old school, will be in vain out here and besides, flying them back home (when you eventually leave) will cost a fortune.

Any chance of a CD? I'll chuck you a few pesos. I love wefunk.com if you need a point of reference.

One other thing, if you should get any gigs, PM me. I'll be up for it.

There are some record sellers in the underground mall connecting Namdaemun Market with Myeong Dong (in Seoul).

However, they tend to carry old stuff like Jazz, 60's & 70"s Rock 'n Roll and Classical. I don't think that's what you're after.

The problem is that younger people in this country don't buy records. They don't even buy CDs. They DL everything. Even the guy who was selling pirate K-pop cds in front of Migliore in Myeong Dong has called it quits and moved on.

I peronally recommend getting your records from Ebay. The only problem is that you have to pay shipping charges that can be expensive.
