I'm thinking about using travelers checks to send some money home. I was wondering if i can buy them at any bank and also what i would need to bring with me other than my passport and the money when buying them?

Thanks

Passport and money. That's it. I would bring my ARC just incase. You never know with Korean workers in banks... You can buy them at a bank no problem.

thats a really dumb way to do it, just go into the bank where your acct is and wire it back. Yeah it'll cost 10,000 won or so on this end and $20 on the the other end but it will it your bank within a day or so. much easier, faster and safer than sending t/cs back

I disagree. One, the exchange rate is usually better on travelers checks. Second, the 30 to 50 dollar fee (between both banks) is pretty heavy. Third, travelers checks are very safe. That's the whole point Wink Plus, for the conpiracy people, the government back home has less information about the money Smile

They didn't for me. Still, if they try, just be forceful and don't let them. They won't stop the transaction. I am not lettign some bank guy from some crappy little country with an inflated sense of self worth stamp my passport so anyone can see how much money I am moving around!

Travelers checks work fine, I've never had my passport stamped, and wire transfer fees are, indeed, high.

Just use a money order.

This has been done to death.
