Please if you can help me, I would really appreciate it. I finally got DSL service last Thursday. Last night it quit. Today they said it would be Saturday before they can come fix it. Can anyone tell me if there is wireless service available for homes in Korea, specifically Ulsan, and if so, approximately how much does it cost to connect and what is the monthly fee?
If not , who else besides KT telecom provides DSL service that is RELIABLE?
Thank you very much for your help.

Ellie

if korea is like japan, then wireless works the same as wired.

meaning, you have a modem that's plugged into the phone jack in the wall, wires running into the phone and modem, and modem to the wall.
if you selected a wireless lan package, then there's either something in the modem or something you can put in it that will send out a wireless signal to your computer.

of course, for the wireless to work, you have to have a computer that has a wireless lan card.

if there's a problem with the internet service itself, having wireless isn't going to help. because if the service is having issues, it's not going to connect to the internet.

sometimes they do work on the line.
and sometimes it's iffy when it first starts up, but then goes fine after that.

i'm sure you've got a pc bang around you.
1,000won per hour is a great deal compared to the 4-5,000won per hour that you have to pay in japan...and korea's pc bangs are a lot less smokey than japanese ones.

You should try and switch off everything and wait a minute and switch everything back on
My connection quit on me a lot in my last place (especially during stormy weather) and the pc guy told me to just switch it off and back on and it worked every time
Maybe thats all you need to do....works for skylife too btw

Thanks for the help. I did try switching it off. It also said there was a network cable not connected. So, I went and bought a new ethernet cable, thinking that might do the trick. But no, it didn't. So, I guess I'm still stuck until Saturday. I can use the computer at my school, but of course, I prefer to use my laptop at home.

i hope you gave it some time....

when i set up my modem and then took out the wireless card (to see if i needed the wireless card in the modem or not), it was about 10min or so before i could get a wireless signal.

network cable not connected was most likely talking about the lack of connection to the internet...your cable was probably fine.

You can sign up to nespot if you like. then you can get wireless internet if you are near a hotspot. I recieve a signal from it at both my work and home, but I think that is because I live near a Mcdonalds and I work near a bank.
