My boss told me yesterday that teachers have to get a hepatitus check or she will get fined. I'm leaving in one week. I work in a hagwon. Has anybody had a similar experience?

Yep, for my public school job.

Apparently I've had hep (can't remember the letter).

"Are you sure that's not the vaccine I got?"

"No. You've had Hep X."

"Without knowing it? How? That's the one I've had a vaccine for."

"No. Your blood show Hep."

Not a Hep Test. It's really a drug test, they just tell you it's a hep test.

Hepatitis isn't a disease that goes away. It's a serious problem in Korea. We should get hep tests when we leave Korea.

There are many types of Hepatitis, and not all are connected with sex &/or booze.

I had hepatitis 30 years ago...not related to booze or sex, sorry to say, nor to needles...

Hep A can be transmitted by dirty ice in your drink or vegetables washed in water that was exposed to an infected person.

It is endemic in Asia. If you weren't vaccinated before you got here chances are that you have caught it since.

Hep B you can get from kissing, sharing food or drinks and other semi casual contact as well as intimate contact.

Hep C you get from intimate contact (sex or needles).

AND

to the OP... in regards to being asked for a check-up, I have never been asked (going on 6 years now) at a public or a private school.

which Hep ones do they vaccine people against? Im pretty sure I was vaccinated since my father was in the military and we used to move around alot but since then (kid age) I dont think ive had any new ones or follow up boosters.

My wife has been a surgical nurse for 17 years. When she found out I had not had a Hep Vaccine she dragged me down to her hospital and had me tested and vaccinated. According to her Hep is a huge problem in Korea (she's Korean). But, here is the kicker, a Hep vaccine is no quarantee that you are protected from Hep. For some people the vaccine works for others it doesn't.
