I was thinking about this today during a class with an exec who stated that although America isn't exactly popular with many folks these days, U.S. hegemony is preferable to an Islamic country (or group of them) wielding the same power.
It got me thinking (I do that a little sometimes) about what our world would look like once everyone (at least nominally and to outward appearances) was Muslim. Secondarily, what would the hate-spewing imams and extremists (uber-Islamists, if you will) focus on next?
(I didn't start him on the topic, in case anyone suspects me of trying to indoctrinate Koreans with whatever views I may have).
Any thoughts? |

All of the West and East Asia are industrialized, so the idea of Moslems taking over is ludicrous. Far more apropos, the correct question should be: what would the hate-spewing anti-Americans and extremists say about life when the Koreans (or somewhat less likely, their cousins, the Chinese) take over? |

That's exactly my point. Tear down the US and what we will get is a hakwon boss in charge of the world. From all reports, Chinese language institute bosses are not noticeably more rational than Korean ones. You would think that ESL teachers who have experienced living under Asian bosses would be America's greatest supporters. (My Korean friends without power are the most delightful people in the world.) |

To be honest, from my experience, bosses in general are not fair anywhere. Labour movements did not arise all over the world because of employer benevolence.
But I agree, the Devil you know. I see many flaws in America, but as far as freedom and opportunity it is definitley up there with the best. I only wish they would really endorse freedom overseas.
That being said, I have prosperedgreatly because of the American presence in Asia. |

The so called American Hegemony is more of a international corporate hegemony.
The multinational corporations of the world in league with cooperating powers in the west (and Pacific rim) is where the real power lies.
There are no true multinational corporation based in China, the Arab World (include persia forthe sake of argument here) or Africa.
Walmart weilds more Economic power and influence than does China. |
