If a hogwan is caught with a non-degreed teacher from the 7 nations, or a teacher with a fake degree - what happens to the hogwon and teacher?
If a hogwan is caught with an illegal teacher, i.e. let's say a Philippino teaching English - what happens to the hogwon and teacher?
I'm curious about what actually happens, and any true/real stories of these events you know. Speculation on what you think SHOULD happen is perhaps interesting, but not an answer.
Anyone know? |

If the paperwork has been started for the E2 - the teacher and hakwon will probably get fined (about 1/2 - 1 mil each).
If the teacher is qualified and the paperwork has not been started the hakwon faces a million won fine, the teacher faces a similar fine and (depending on circumstances) detention and deportation.
If the teacher is NOT qualified the school will be fined, he will be fined, and then he will spend a few days in the immigration detention center while his case is adjudicated and then be deported (at their own expense) with a label of "persona non grata" placed in his file. The ban is often only 1-2 years but has been known to be as high as 5.
If he used a fake degree he may have a charge of fraud added to the immigration violations (resulting in a larger fine or longer detention).
If they are unwilling or unable to pay the fine or flight home they will stay in detention until they do.
A Philippino or other citizen who is NOT married to a Korean (or covered under SOFA) would face the same penalties.
A Pinay (or other citizen) who is married to a Korean or covered under SOFA would not have to worry because they are NOT violating immigration laws. |
