Mark Cuban is looking to dip his hand in the MMA world. I say he would be great for the sport.

Mark Cuban, the energetic and controversial owner of the National Basketball Association's Dallas Mavericks, is negotiating for the services of Russian mixed martial arts star Fedor Emelianenko (Pictures), Sherdog.com confirmed Sunday.
"I am in ongoing discussions with some of his people," Cuban revealed in an e-mail interview that will be published on Sherdog.com later this week.
Cuban's interest in Emelianenko has everything to do with HDNet, currently available in 6 million homes, nearing a major uptick in the amount of MMA programming on the HD network.
"I plan on making a significant investment in MMA with the goal of promoting it as a professional sport with professional athletes," said the 49-year-old Cuban, whose net worth was listed by Forbes in 2007 to be $2.3 billion. Cuban purchased the Mavericks in 2000 after selling Broadcast.com to Yahoo! for $5.7 billion in stock. "There is no reason that a fighter in an undercard match should be treated any differently than how I treat our players on the Mavs."
In Emelianenko -- the longtime PRIDE heavyweight champion who became a free agent after Zuffa purchased the PRIDE Fighting Championships in March -- Cuban would have his fighting Dirk Nowitzki.
"We would work with his promoters to place him in fights from affiliated promoters or in fights we promote ourselves," said Cuban, who plans on partnering with established MMA organizations to fill the weekly quota of bouts HDNet would need for its successful Friday Fight Night series.
"It's the highest rated sports programming by far [on HDNet]," Cuban said. "Our MMA programming on HDNet beats networks that have five times or more the carriage that we do. So it's been a big winner for us and we expect it to get even better." |

Fedor's management is negotiating with several different organizations. Hopefully a deal with the UFC will be made. Right now the UFC is the front runner. Apperantly Fedor wants to compete in Russian Sambo in his home country as well as fight in the UFC, and the UFC are not willing to allow it if and when he chooses to sign with them. Keeping my fingers crossed someone budges soon.
I really can't see Fedor joining and organization run by Mark Cuban. He'll be too old by the time any other top contenders join/sign. The competition right now is in the UFC. |

I think you are right, however, Mark Cuban is a super smart guy and has the money to spend. I think any fighter in the UFC would be willing to fight for Cuban if he raised the ante for pay. MMA guys don't make that much, so with Cuban throwing cash around it could make things interesting. |

If Fedor doesn't join the UFC he will pretty much be forfeiting his number 1 ranking in the world because he will not be fighting any contenders. Almost all the top 10 heavyweights are now in the UFC. The only exceptions are him and Barnett. |

Fedor is signed with UFC already, there just hasn't been an anouncement yet. He's confirmed to be attending UFC 75 this Saturday night in London, and Randy Couture will also be in attendance. There will be an announcement prior to the Henderson Vs. Jackson main event by Dana White welcoming Fedor to the UFC.
He's making $1.8 million a fight for a four fight deal, according to what I've read. He's also allowed to compete in other MMA events in Russia. That's sick money considering the next highest paid fighter in UFC is Chuck Lidell who makes about $500,000 a fight. Hell, Randy Couture (the current HW champ) only makes about $250,000 a fight! |

i think the figure is actually closer to 2 million a fight... that conjuction with him signing a contract with affliction, push this deal to astronomical levels in terms of how much he'll be paid to fight... he deserves it. he's the best in the world until proven otherwise... i just wish those middle tier guys made more money, too. |

What about Hunt, Kharitonov and Aleksander? K1 has some good fighter too like Schilt and Mighty Mo. I Think Dana will re-think how much he is willing to offer Fedor after what happened with Cro Cop. They threw alot of money at him, talked him up and he flopped. I think most of Prides fighters will end up with K1. |

Mark Hunt is actually already under contract with UFC.... Dana White said so in an interview a couple of days ago. Apparantly he's been instructed to lose weight before they will let him fight... this is according to an interview I read with Dana White.
Fedor is trying to get some of the other Red Devil fighters signed through his negotiations, so it's likely we'll see his brother Aleksander in the UFC if Fedor signs... it would be smart for the UFC to sign him anyway.
Who do you think will end up with K1? Crocop, Henderson, Jackson, Wanderlei Silva, and Hunt have already inked deals with UFC. I was thinking it wouldn't be surprising if CroCop ended up back in K1 after he finishes with UFC. I think he has 1 fight (?) left on his contract, and unless he comes out and shows the flash of old, I can't see him getting offered another contract.... at least in K1 he'd be in his element (kickboxing). |

Overeem, Arona, Hansen, Aoki, Minowa, Bustmante, Yoshida, Kang, Trigg, Filho, Baroni, Lindland, Kharitonov, Barnett, Gomi, Rizzo, Monsoon, Sokoudjou (I'm not sure if he signed with Elite) Sobral (UFC dropped him) , Misaki, Chonan, Diaz, Horn and Melendez wouldn't hurt K1. |
