Actually, to say that someone can be fired at any time with some grounds, sufficient or trumped up, would not be accurate if the contract says differently. For example, my contract says that I can be fired for certain reasons, which are specified (for example, serious violations of Korean law) OR I can be given 60 days notice of termination, no reason needed. The contract also gives me the same right to notice that I'm leaving in 60 days, no reason needed.

If this is not the case, then a contract is meaningless in Korea. While a contract is interpreted slightly differently in Korea than in most western countries, it DOES have meaning and legal force. If it did not, the Labor Board would not uphold contract provisions against hogwons, which they do.

Ooops, this was supposed to go on the "Am I fired or did I quit" thread, obviously I did something wrong!
