Congressman and Democratic Party presidential candiate Dennis Kucinich appeared on Syrian TV on 9-11, apparently doing his "part" to commemorate the terrorist attacks on the nation.
During the interview, which is available on video from The Drudge Report, Kucinich declares that the "American people" (speaking of course for all Americans) realize that the war was and is wrong--an illegal occupation, etc.
Then he proceeds to offer his "solution" to the impasse, i.e. how to withdraw U.S. troops without creating a vacuum. His brilliant solution: bring in a peacekeeping force led by Iran and Syria.
Ah, yes, Denny, escort the foxes into the henhouse. Cluck! Cluck!
Is this guy serious? He relates that he had the "honor" to meet with Syrian leader Assad and then says that he's convinced this man wants peace in Iraq.
Never mind that the Syrians support the Sunnis and the Iranians the Shiites.
Never mind that he hasn't bothered to ask the Iraqi government if they would support his proposal.
Because our Leftwing nutbar from the south shore of Lake E(e)rie has it all figured out.
Aside from his sheer naivete, I never imagined that a presidential candidate would appear in public in a nation that has been a state-supporter of terrorism on the anniversary of the worst slaughter of innocent fellow citizens.
But there we have it in all its nauseating azz-kissing appeasement.
So I ask: What did he possibly hope to accomplish by making this visit, especially at this moment? |

As I mentioned, you can access the videostream via The Drudge Report. Or try one of Joo's weblinks.
Many of the more moderate in the ranks of the Democratic Party are trying to downplay this visit and it's interesting that CNN International has made no mention of his visit in the last two days. |

I do believe the Syrians may have to be engaged, but the question of how it must be done is another thing. It should be done indirectly at this moment, and not in the way Kucinic is doing it, but there is no harm in Kucinic being interviewed by Syrians unless he flew into Syria to get interviewed. Syria is not Iran. It is a secular state. It has to be dealt with and overthrowing the government would be a bad option. It can be cut off from Hezbollah in the long run and if it feels threatened it can create a mess in Lebanon. People can't have a black and white approach to the region in the old George Bush way. Everyone knows that. Bashar's father sent troops in Desert Storm at the request of Bush senior.
That should be remembered. Nixon went to China. Let's keep things in perspective. |

Saudi Arabia sending Syria a billion and letting Syria keep Lebanon had a lot to do with it.
But you are correct the only alternative to Syria's regime is the Muslim Brotherhood. If it fell they would take power. |
