Haha sorry about the cheesy title. I am posting this for my friend...
She is american and living in Italy with her boyfriend(he's Italian). She can't get a visa to stay there. And he can't get one to stay in the states. So they are looking for a country that will have them both. She wants to consider Korea. However, she only has an associates. She was thinking of TESOL- can she teach with just that? And can he teach in Korea since he's Italian? I'm not sure about his qualifications.
Or can they teach English somewhere else and both do it?
Or how hard is it to get a job in Korea not teaching?
thanks for your help. |

If she can find a school in Das Boot that really wants her, she should be able to get a visa teaching "American English". IT will be a bit of a hassle for the school I am sure, so she will really need to wow them. Or go to Serbia, they aren't EU yet I think. Turkey might be nice as well. |

If they are in love, they should marry. Then they can go where ever they wish. |

Chances are slim to none of her and her b/f getting jobs here, in or out of teaching. |

Yeah, it won't be easy, if possible at all, for an Italian to get a job over here. Why on earth can't she get a visa for Italy though? She could go to the UK, there's a visa waiver programme between the US and UK, so she wouldn't need one. BUT, she couldn't work on it. Perhaps it's easier to get a working visa if you're in country though. It goes without saying that her boyfriend could go to the UK and work. |

When I was living in CHina (a few years ago) there were foreigners of all persuasions (i.e. Israeli, Danish, Indian) teaching English just because they didn't look Chinese (were on tourist visas mostly). China is probably tightened up at the moment, due to the games, but perhaps somewhere like Vietnam is so desperate for teachers, an Italian can get a job as an ESL teacher (on the sly of course). But I don't know about Vietnam - that's just a random country I just pulled out my arse. Actually, I met East Europeans and Arabs teaching in Korea on the sly, so depending on how many months an Italian can get a visa, he might be able to land a job in Korea too. Depends how naughty you wanna be. |

I've met a few people that have said it's fairly easy to live and work in Ireland as foreigners. They've all worked crap jobs though.
When I visited my friend in China, she ran with a lot of expats--French, Chileans, Israelis, etc.
But I'll cast another vote for marriage. I know marrying is not a simple solution, but it's easier than getting a work visa.
Or school... seems you can study just about anywhere... |
