I teach in an afterschool programme and am looking for 2 reading books for two classes I teach.

One is more advanced than the other (some of the advanced students are reading Charlottes web at their hagwon), but I am loking for something a little easier and short than this.

I looked in the book store and saw lots of readers but I wondered if anyone had experience of books that worked for this age group.

Any ideas?? The students currently use the Totally True series (books 1 and 2) and are getting a little bored with it..

We are using "Can you believe it? Stories and Idioms from Real Life"

I'm thinking of using book 3 for the advanced class and book 1 for the normals.

I'm having a real problem with these classes. Some of the kids are near native speakers from having lived abroad. Some spend all their evenings in Hogwans doing TOEFL level writing exercises (and can't speak a word of English or refuse to because they hate it so much). And some are just natural language learners or real keenos.

They all think they are special which makes them quite obnoxious. If I do anything fun their mums complain. If I do Hogwan-style "serious study" the kids act up.
