Hi all,
I'm starting to look around for a simple, but small computer that I can take with me on vacations and get some work done.
Requirements:
Full keyboard
USB (for a mouse / sticks)
SMALL (10" screen or smaller)
Wifi (G preferable)
Decent battery life. 5 hoursish would be great (does it exist?)
That's pretty much it. It doesn't have to be lightning quick, it doesn't even have to play movies. Hard drive can be smallish - no problem. No optical drive needed. In decent condition. I'll need it for web work, e-mail, simple coding, word processing, presentations, etc.
Anyone want to freshen up their hardware? Let me know! |

I have a Kohjinsha SA1F00DKR laptop that's about 5 months old. I'm thinking of upgrading to the newer touchscreen model.
Here's some specs: I upgraded the RAM to 1Gb. It has an 80Gb HDD, no optical drive, Windows XP Home English, Bluetooth, WiFi, bla blah. PM me if you want to follow up. I have the original box and packing etc. (and store receipt, so it's under warranty) and the O/S is genuine. It's in great condition.

| I'd snap up that Kohjinsha. It's under 1 kg. Though if you want to do a lot of typing, buy a foldable PDA keyboard from Yongsan or technomart. I got one which folds out to fullsize but I can put it in my pocket. Much faster than the teeny tiny keys in the really small notebooks. |

i have the new kohjinsha ... got it at TM for under a million.
it's very, very, very nice!!
i haven't figured out how to switch the OS to english ... and i'm not a big fan of vista. but most UMPC people in the know say that the kohjinsha is a good machine.
i love it though ... would recommend them to anyone.
100 gig. 960 grams. mine has 1 gig of ram ... not a fast processor, but it does the job without too many problems. |

Here's a bit more info about my SA1F00: It didn't come with install disks (they don't). I have the English O/S installed onto a 1Gb SD card in case I ever needed to re-install (although apparently there's a hidden partition on the HDD that allows you to re-install the original setup). That's included with the computer. It has SD, MMC and Compactflash slots so you can boot from it.
There are 2 x USB ports and an thernet out port. It has a VGA out port if you wanted to hook it up to a larger monitor.
The k/b has both Hanguel and English. new cost was 799,000 and the RAM chip cost me another 80,000 (I still have the original chip too). It has the power supply and a white slipcase, plus the original (Korean) manual and warranty.
I'd like to get around 600,000. If you are interested please PM me. The link I provided in my earlier post has a lot of photos and specs. Battery use varies: without WiFi it's currently showing... let's see... 96% @ 4:01 hours.
Cheers,

right ... there's a hidden partition with all the boot data backed up ... so that if windows explodes, you can reinstall, including all the kohjinsha software and origami experience.
i wouldn't mind knowing how you got it to install from the SD card. i'd like to toss out the korean vista and get english xp. vista is too bulky, even with 1 gig of ram ... but i'm worried about drivers. |

The higher end Asus EEE PC will be released in "late 2007" and the lower end ones will be sometime in 2008.
Even I am looking forward to it. Flash based storage devices are good. |

Superdave ~ PM me about the Kohjinsha/Windows setup. I don't think it's a good idea to divert from the OP's thread, but will be happy to discuss with you outside this posting.
Cheers,
