Last month I flew home for a visit with the family. While reading Air Canada's in-flight magazine I came upon an ad for "Dynamic Korea" (yes, I know everyone here had a good laugh at "dynamic" a few months ago) Anyway, in the ad there is a nice little picture of a folk village, and then a list of 5 or so things that I assume make Korea "dynamic". Number one on this list................. "Korean b-boy dancers are world famous"
My wording may not be an exact match, but you get the idea. I actually let out a loud laugh when I read it. Can you believe it? Some ad wizards for Korean tourism are promoting break dancing as a selling point of this country.
Reason number 2, if memory serves, was Korean soccer fans. Sure, about 95% of them are nowhere to be found for 3 years and 11 months, but hey, let's promote them!
The other reasons actually made sense. Something about Korea's IT industry, spices, and... who knows. I'm still laughing at number 1. |

Last month waiting for my plane from Phuket back to Seoul one of the ground crew came through the boarding gate. This was enough to send the waiting Koreans into a frenzy helped in no way by a loud "Bali wa" from an ajumma trying to corale her hyperactive kids.
Over 100 Koreans then spent the next 20 minutes in line* waiting to board despite the fact that no borading calls had been made and all the screens clearly stated the boarding time and a sign written in Korean at the gate also said the same time.
Once boarding time came around and i was walking down the ramp there was an advert for HSBC with a few quotes on it, the one that hit the nail on the head was "If everyone thinks the same nothing will ever change".
* I have to say that the Koreans displayed impeccable queing skills that i did not think they were capable of!! |

I typed it up in April.

THat's the one!! Please tell me your "typing" of it consisted only of editing and then actually "typing" rather than making it up yourself. |

I typed it from the advertisement in a travel magazine (my scanner was - and still is - broken). That's it word for word. |

Natalia,
I think Newbie was actually inquiring in to whether you created the advertisement or copied it verbatim from a source onto Dave's. |

As I said, it's word for word from the advertisement. I read the ad, typed the ad straight out of the magazine. Didn't change anything.
I don't how how to make myself any clearer.... |

In his book "The Koreans" Michael Breen talked about how they have no idea how to market themselves. For example, they'd rather take you to a factory than to a temple.
