|
|
My contract ends Jan 1 and I am planning on moving to a different school. Just curious what other people have done to get a new job after a contract expires.
I have been poking around the various websites and all jobs are advertised for ASAP start date. I would like to secure a job at least a month in advance, but this seems almost impossible. My school hires a new teacher a week after the previous teacher left, despite knowing for 2 months the teacher is leaving.
So what have you done....
...Talk to a recruiter, give them your info and tell them to keep an eye out?
... Word of mouth?
... just wait till the contract expires and take whatever looks good at the time?
Any advice or personal experience is appreciated.
Thanks,

You may be a little early in trying to find a job for January, but I have seen a couple of universities advertising for next March already, so you should just keep looking. I would send an email to recruiters and tell them that you are available in January and just wait a month or two. Most schools have an idea of when their teachers are leaving, but since this is Korea, they love to do things at the last minute.
What kind of job are you looking for? If it's a hagwon you will have no problem finding a job. If you're looking for a public school, you may have to wait until March to get a job. In that case, you could try to secure a winter camp job during January and February and then start at the public school the first of March. Good luck |

Yes, i know it's a bit too early to find anything solid yet, just starting to get the ball rolling.
BTW, Anybody know a decent recruiter?
Preferably one that doesn't advertise a 3.0 Million job in the title, then upon opening it, see it is really 2.1.

Schools often wait to look for a teacher, but if you contact a school you would like to work for, or stop by for a visit, they will often be happy to sign you up early for an anticipated opening. They can meet you in person, avoid the telephone hiring problem, and save searching and recruiter fees.
I only used a recruiter for my first job. Once in Korea, personal networking and keeping your eyes and ears open all year, seems the best way. |
