Hi all,
I've read quite a few horror stories about people terminating their contracts early so I thought I'd post my positive experience.
I handed in my resignation today at my little hagwon only after working for 2 months. I've previously posted that my hagwon went from 4 teachers when I started down to just 2, myself and the director. I'm in a small town with only 2 other foreigners so being at such a small school wasn't what I needed. I've previously explained to my director that I wouldn't have taken the job if it was advertised as only the 2 of us. She normally hires couples to make it easier. I've also had some issues with being given no text books and I felt she needed a much more experienced teacher.
Anyway I spoke to her again today and explained I wasn't happy and that I wasn't the best fit for her hagwon and she was great. She said she understood that the town and hagwon were small for me and that its hard for me to meet new people (the power of hindsight for me). Without me even asking she said she would try and find another hagwon for me. I'm going to travel for a bit so that's ok. I said I'd give her 2 months notice (stated on my contract) but I could stay a little longer as it might be hard to find a replacement right on top of Christmas.
All in all she was fantastic. My contract says I have to pay back my one way ticket and that's totally fine by me.
I have spoken to her a few times about my concerns so this wasn't a total shock. I think communicating with her has helped in this situation.
So there are some great hagwons out there, just thought I'd let people know.
Thanks |

The problems usually arise in the last week or so when you find out that you will not be paid for the last month you have worked and will not get released from your contract.
She has to be sweet now or you will not give her a good reference to find a new foreigner.
After she finds one or your time has ended and she hasn't found a replacement yet, let us know if she was still nice and you got paid. |

Well I've signed a release contract with my director which states she will pay me my last months salary 5 days in advance, so while I'm still teaching.
She's also agreed to give me 1 months notice if she finds a replacment teacher in less than the 2 months.
All in all its going ok. She seems to be happier as well. I think she was worried I was going to do a midnight run. |
