Sorry to bother you all again, but turns out Thailand is going to not be such an awesome choice for Chuseok so could use some help looking for a new place to visit. I am new to traveling to this side of the world so not really sure where to go.
Things I'm Looking For:
-beach
-city with lots of things to see/do
-cheap
-not super far away as i have 4 days.
-also am going alone so might be nice if other foreigners were visiting so maybe have someone to talk to?
Excuse my naivety (not sure if thats a word) and please dont bother answering if you just want to mock me.
Thanks for the help! |

For 4 days, I would say the Philippines is the closest, cheapest place that offers everything you are looking for. I would go to Cebu, stay there for a couple days, and do a day trip to Bohol for a day or 2. |

Philippines tickets with tax for Chusok thru shoestring travel in Hongdae are 760,000 won including tax. Singapore is 580,000.
Have you thought about Dokdo (glorious islands belonging to Japan in the Sea of Japan)? |

From Manila it is easy to get to Cebu, Boracay (Caticlan) or Alona Beach (Tagbilaran). There are multiple flights to each destination every day and domestic tickets are relatively cheap.
Airlines are: Philippine Air, Air Philippines, Cebu Pacific, South East Asian Air (SEAair), and Asian Spirit.

Yeah Alona Beach --- beeen trying to get there for a few years now. How is Boracay this time of year? I've heard that they have to cover all the restaurants and bars along the beach this time of year because the sand flies in as a result of the storms.
Amber, pretty much anywhere you go in SE Asia you're going to risk bad weather in September. But just because I had complete washout 2 years ago on Phuket doesn't mean you will. In fact, I went to Phi-Phi for 2 days during Chuseok and it didn't rain at all (although it was overcast). Chances are it won't rain nonstop 24/7, but do expect some rainfall. |

hi ajgeddes,
How much was the room at Alona Tropical and how did you book it? Are there two resorts at Alona Beach with similar names - 'Alona Tropical Beach Resort' and 'Alona Tropical Resort' or is it only one resort which is someti mes named differently?
Cheers |

It's the same place Ttompatz always talks about. If we leave out the call of TTOMPATZ please help, he will be back here with prices. He recommended it to me.
I stayed in A/C room and non A/C rooms. They were $40 and $20 a night roughly. I will put a couple more pictures on tomorrow. |

Hong Kong comes to mind for me, as does Bangkok. Hong kong isn't super cheap (there still are hostels availible)but Hong Kong has beaches, tonnes of stuff to see and do, world class nightlife/shopping, some of the best food options in the world and isn't very far away. Bangkok while a little further away can be very cheap (khao san), has amazing food options, is safe (Manila, not so much) and there are decent beaches (no Koh Samui) which are close to the city. |

Ummmm...no matter what side you choose it needs to be said that Dokdo is the name the Koreans have given the island. If you side with the Japanese on ownership it should be called the Japanese name "Takeshima".
BTW~~what sites are recommended in Singapore? |
