Core 2 Duos with 1 GB of ram and DVD burners with 500 GB HD's. WTF where is this money coming from? I'm pretty sure these rigs aren't needed for chatting, answering e-mail and online shopping. |

C2D processors aren't that expensive, aside from the premium models which squeeze just a few more mhz in.
1GB of RAM is very cheap.
DVD Burners are just as cheap as CD-Rom Drives.
Welcome to the march of technology. |

WTF though, I'm pretty sure 99% of the staff could do fine, even if they needed photoshop, with Pentium IV's or whatever the hell they were running before. Why not save the money and buy soap or hot water. |

250k boxes.... nothing special there....
I don't know about your school but at our school there is a great deal of classroom material that is now multi-media.
It is cheaper than textbooks, easy to duplicate and disseminate.
They are tied to our internet site (with tons of material loaded up), hooked into the schools broadcast system and used to access the EBS system as well.
2 thumbs up for making use of the technology in a useful and meaningful way. |

The staff all got new computers and LCD monitors over the summer break. Everyone except me. I'm still using the oldest PoS in the school, running Win98, with the CRT monitor viewableunder the desk (how the hell do I get my knees under here!!)
In addition, they're storing a heap of massive LG and Samgsung rear projection TVs in one of the rooms... why can't I borrow one for the remainder of semester... rather than use the 20cm thing they gave me??
(The facts of this post are true... but the tone is meant to be tongue in cheek) |

At least you GOT a freaking computer. I had to buy my own laptop and use it at school. |

I had this nonsense when I first arrived at my public school. All the staff had whoop de do computers - and I had one that needed coal shoveling. My computer broke down about 4-5 times a week - it was driving me crazy. When I asked for a new one - my supervisor 'suggested' I buy a laptop. WTF.
I wrote down the amount of money the K govt gave the school for my teaching services (100,000 won pa) and under it I put down my salary (approx 28,000 won). Guess what - a brand new computer the next week. |
