I'd really appreciate some help from any Canadians who have gotten married to Koreans while living in Korea.

I got married (ceremony) in June but was a little slow in getting to the Embassy to look after the papers.

So I used the Embassy website and picked up the 2 papers I needed (3 copies of each). I filled them out and brought them back (along with the family registry from my wife) and got the Affidavits stamped at the Embassy. They gave me back the copies so I moved onto the step of going to the Gu-Cheong office. This is where things didn't go quite as I thought. At the office they said I needed to get a marriage license and to have Korean versions made of the 2 documents I got from the Embassy.
I finally got them to stamp the 'report and certificate of marriage' documents, because I thought that was what the Embassy needed.

Being a little bit busy though, I can't make a trip to the Embassy to hand the 2 copies needed in person. So I'm planning on mailing them tomorrow. What can I expect from that point on? What would have happened had I gone to the Embassy with the papers instead? Would I have just made the trip to drop them off (in which case, mailing them was just as easy)? When they receive the documents, will I have to wait for a 'marriage license' and then pick it up at the embassy? Or will they mail it to my mailing address if I include it (as I plan to) in the evelope?
And lastly, once the license is obtained (if that is what comes next), will I just be making another trip back to the Gu-Cheong? Please give me some help if anyone has the memories from this time in your lives pretty clear. Thanks.

You need to get something for the Canadian embassy stating that you're not married back in Canada. I forget what step that was for...the wedding or the certificate afterwards.

Did you do this?

They also state that the document has to be translated from English to Korean and they will try to charge you for it (translation fee). Yo or or wife can easily do it. They neglect to tell you that.

Thanks.

Yeah... we were told we had to get the translations, but my wife did do those herself the other day. The people at the Gu Cheong showed us a paper we did need (marriage license) so I imagine this is what we'll get once we bring the stamped reports back to the Embassy this time.
