I was told yesterday by my co-teacher that I need to provide a Application of US Residency Certification form for tax perposes. I found the form on the IRS website and downloaded it and the 12 pages instructions on how to fill it out. I have to wait for my wife to get back from the Orientation before I can hand it in since it needs her signature. But to get to my questions: why do i need to hand in this form? What exactly does it do? My co-teacher can't explain exactly, but she said it exempts me from paying taxes (3.3%) in korea (which means, i suppose, i have to pay my 30% to the usa). anyone know this form and is it necessary?
