Does anyone bank with Nonghyup? Is it possible to transfer money from them to a UK/foreign bank account? How do you do it? How much does it cost and how long does it take?

I've transfered money to the US from Nonghyup. I went with my co-teacher. You need your passport #, immigration card, and maybe 1 other thing. It took about 3 days for the money to show up in my American account. It was pretty cheap too.

Bish. You need your IBAN and swift code from the UK. Then, go with passport and ARC card in hand. It's very easy!

Smaller neighborhood branches generally wont handle transfers -- you need a larger branch with a foreign exchange desk.

Your recipient bank must be a chartered bank -- credit unions & such dont work.

Otherwise, piece of cake.

If you have not wired money back home yet, but have a banking account.
What you need for the first time.
1. Your banks address back home.
2. Wire transfer name from your bank back home.
3. Your account number.
4. ARC card.
5. Passport. You will need your passport every time you wire money.
6. Your address in Korea, only the first time.

It's true.
Smaller neighborhood branches in small town usually don't handle transfers, you need a larger branch in middle/large cities.

I just came back from korea, transfered $9500.00 to U.S bank and carried another $9500.00 with me to U.S.
Why $9500.00 ??
The bank told me the amount of money to transfer U.S has to be less than $10000.00 and also if I carry less than $10000.00 with me when I came back to U.S I don't have to report.

I wanted to use them to transfer money home and they told me that they could only transfer money home if I had been at my current job for more than three months and had proof of income. I went to three different main branches in my city and was told the same thing over and over. So I could not transfer money through them for the first three months. I walked across the street to KB bank and they sent it across without blinking an eye.

You MUST show them proof of income everytime you want to sent money home. Get your school to print out your monthly income sheet and take it with you.

And did you have an account with KB when you transfered it with them?

Just another long series of numbers, if your bank didn't give you this when you told them you would be sending money from oversees, the chances are you might not actually need it. Your iban and banking address might be enough.

If not, then it's nothing that a quick phonecall wouldn't sort out.

I bank with nyong hyup with no problems. They told me to just bring in the receipt from the last transfer the next time I want to do it. Makes things so easy you won't need your coteacher.

In my experience, this is not true. I have never been asked for a proof of income.

Evidently, all banks/branches work slightly differently.

I have bank accounts at both banks. My NongHyup account was new so they insisted on following the "national banking law" according to the managers at the diffirent branches. I walked over the street to KB Bank where I have done banking before and asked them if they knew of this rule. They said no they didn't. They only wanted proof that I was employed by my school and my pay slip. It took about 15 minutes to send the money after they checked my employment and passport info.
